Builders Exchanges

Builders exchanges are membership organizations. Their main goal is to allow local contractors to communicate with one another and to view projects out to bid in the area. Nearly every builders exchange Web site has a section that lists project out to bid, but this list generally is reserved for members (different types of membership range from $200 to $1,000 a year). The names of builders exchanges on the accompanying list that are followed by an asterisk allow non-members to view the projects out to bid. Other member services might include newsletters, pre- and post-bid information, construction reports, information about building permits, project plans and specifications, and access to a plan room, real or virtual. Builders exchanges also might offer additional free services, including member directory; architect, engineer or contractor finding tools; product and service directories; safety and education information; construction industry news, articles and releases; job postings; construction and insurance information; and industry links.
